Summary

The Capital Campaign was decided upon last fall, when Dublin realized that the new heating system and some future goals needed addressing on a larger scale. It was decided that a large capital campaign with professional support, would be the best way to maintain our wonderful Church not only now, but also to prepare it and us for an exciting and vibrant future.

On Sunday January 24th, a very excited group of about 60 people stayed behind after the Church service for a wonderful sharing time. The time was spent discussing and strategizing over Dublin's new Capital Campaign - Building Our Future. The Steering Committee for this campaign (David Durbin (Chair), Elm Alyea, Linda Bissell, Janet Brydges, Gord Curl, Brenda Doner, Ruth Golding, Sara Kaune, Ken King, Brian Smith Tom Sproule, Rene Van Acker) announced the $500,000 target goal of the campaign and asked for initial insight into how best to use the funds.

From the priorities established at that meeting the steering committee developed several possibilities for using the funds. The congregation is to decide which among those suggested or other projects are the most pressing.  There were four main categories: Recent Renovations, Enhancing our Church Facilities, Nurturing and Membership Development, and Justice and Outreach Projects.

Mr. Ben Harder of Harder Associates was selected to be our fund-raising consultant and he provided scheduling of campaign events and training to members of the steering committee with each member having specific responsibilities.  A printed case statement with DVD was prepared to outline the appeal.  Three town-hall type meetings were held with opportunity given for members to ask questions and provide comments on the campaign objectives.

On Sunday May 2nd, nearly 200 people gathered at Guelph Place for dinner and an evening of celebration - Dublin Celebrates - with great food, joyous music, wonderful fellowship and contributions by Rev. John Ambrose and previous ministers; also by Dublin members including a slide show celebrating Dublin prepared by Elm Alyea.  At the end of the evening David Durbin announced that the amount already raised and committed was an impressive $293,891. While the adults were meeting at Guelph Place, 36 kids enjoyed food and nature at Guelph Lake.

Many 'couriers' were recruited and trained to deliver to and pick up commitment cards from all those associated with Dublin.   By the end of May, with most cards returned, the grand total of funds received and committed was $543,689 - significantly surpassing the goal and a wonderful accomplishment.  Grateful thanks goes to all those who contributed in any way to this very successful campaign.
